2024 marks a landmark year for us here at Kingsgate – but more particularly for Boots!
Back in 1922 it was reported “It is understood that Boots Limited, are opening premises in High Street, Dunfermline”. Fast forward just a short while and on 29th March 1924, Boots did indeed open their first store in Dunfermline at 63 – 65 High Street.
By now a high quality fixture on Dunfermline High Street, around 1968 Boots then extended to 69 High Street, then later 71 High Street.
Always at the forefront of premier retail, Boots then opened a second store within Dunfermline at 12 Guildhall Street on 24th June 1971 as the experimental Audio Boots – store opened by the famous Scottish Singer Moira Anderson. The Guildhall Street store was hugely popular and exclusively sold audio equipment and records. Who, of a certain vintage, could ever forget flicking through the racks of vinyl records and even previewing at the famous listening posts.
Boots then remained a “go to” fixture at 63 – 71 High Street, Dunfermline until 2013. On 3rd July 2013, we were delighted to welcome the fabulous name of Boots to the already well established line up of high quality retail names within the Kingsgate Centre, Dunfermline! The rest they say is history….
Since 2013, Kingsgate and Boots have worked as true partners in retail – even weathering out the storm of the recent Covid pandemic together, emerging stronger to embrace a long and fruitful retail relationship for the future! Here’s to the next 100 years!
